Positive Healing Nurturing Art
What your mind can perceive, it can make you feel….
A long time ago when I was so lost and confused in the world, the idea of visualising something beautiful or positive seemed foreign and unattainable to me… the only pictures I could imagine were those of pain or despair — and the world was only too eager to provide plenty of images to support those feelings.
Up until that point I was fully dependent on the people and circumstances in my life for my inner experience. When my environment was harsh – I felt bad, when it was positive – I felt temporarily better. So I was stuck in the loop of chasing people and experiences who I thought were responsible for making me feel good.
It was unclear how I was supposed to get to those good feelings - there was no road, no map, no secret door with a key…
Look Where You’re Going, Not Where You’ve Been
I eventually started to pull my mind towards where I wanted it to be emotionally, through seeking out pictures that made me feel what I wanted to feel: peace, relaxation, positivity, contentment, safety, security and belonging – all those lovely feelings that seemed to be readily available to others, but seemed just out of reach for me.
At the time I struggled to find artwork that reflected all the nuanced feelings in a way that was believable to me.
This is when I remembered that I wasn’t limited to what I was surrounded by - so I got creating.
